AUSSIE HERO QUILT FINISH

Some weekend sewing and machine quilting on Sunday resulted in another quilt finish for an Aussie Hero.

The recipient requested "Surfing" and colours of "Black and Yellow", I happened to have some quirky surfing fabric in my stash and made them into star blocks, you only need 15 star blocks to make a single bed quilt. I am so thrilled to have it finished and I am really happy with the result. I hope LEUT Shawn likes his quilt.

This is the back, I used half of one of the single bed quilt covers I purchased from Spotlight a few weeks back.

This is a close up of two of the blocks, the little doggie is so cute on the surf board.

I have been fully machine quilting the binding on for these quilts as it is a LOT quicker plus it will be a lot more sturdier. I use a brown zig zag stitch on the front of the quilt which adds in extra strength plus I think it gives it a nice look/finish.

I also made a laundry bag using a linen tea towel for the front, the fabric on sides and back of the laundry bag is the same as I used for the backing of the quilt back.

The next project for me to tackle is a 21st memory quilt for my youngest, her birthday is1st August,  I don't think I will make the dead line but will give it my best.

LONG WEEKEND SEWING

I am making another quilt for an Aussie Hero, this time I am making a Star block quilt, I made 15 star blocks on the weekend and last night I sewed the rows together, there are 5 rows of 3 star blocks. I am still thinking about the border, maybe a red, what do you think ?

I also managed to make some more bias binding, only this time it was much quicker than my previous bias binding making. I checked out some you tubes last week and found a quicker and easier way to cut the binding. Plus I invested in a "Bias Binding Making" tool last week, Lincraft had a 30% off store wide sale so I decided to see if they sold the bias binding making tools and they do, plus an extra bonus they had only one size - the size I wanted, it only cost $5.80 with the discount. This tool saved me soooo much time when ironing the bias binding. So happy ..... and more bias binding to add to my stash.

FINISHED QUILT AND LAUNDRY BAG

I finished my first quilt for "Aussie Hero Quilt and Laundry Bags" on the weekend, I did machine binding on it and quilted it. I am not a quilter so it's very basic, it's the first time I have done a machine binding on a quilt and it was so quick and easy, love it, I will be doing this again and it's so much sturdier than the hand stitched way.
This is the front of the quilt, a disappearing 9 patch.

This is the back of the quilt. Quilt backing fabric is so expensive, I was in Spotlight 2 weeks ago and they had a sale on quilt covers so I had a bright idea that I could get two quilt backings out of one quilt cover, I bought one disney print - "Tinkerbell" for $15 and two others for $10 each.  I am so excited as there is enough to get two quilt backs and also enough fabric for the binding in one quilt set.

This is the laundry bag front, I love it with the Aussie Flag and the fabric with the Aussie animals.

This is the back of the Laundry Bag.

I posted off this quilt and laundry bag to a female Aussie Hero just being deployed to Afghanistan.
I hope this will give her a little comfort having a little piece of Australia to remind her of home.
